Coping When Everything Is Changing at Once

Life rarely changes in one area at a time. A new job arrives alongside a new city, a relationship shift, a family responsibility. When transitions pile up, it is easy to feel you are losing your footing.

Why transition hurts — even good ones

Every transition asks your brain to re-learn the edges of your life: where home is, who you are at work, what dinner looks like. That re-learning takes energy, even when the change is something you wanted and chose.

Keep things constant on purpose

In the middle of change, small constants are your anchor: the same morning routine, a familiar walk, a standing call with someone who knows you. Meanwhile, lower your expectations for a season — this is not the moment for extra projects.

You are not behind because you are tired in the middle of a transition. You are exactly where the transition needs you to be.

Name the grief of the old season

Even when you love where you are going, it is okay to miss what you left. Naming that grief honestly makes it smaller than it becomes when left unspoken.

If the uncertainty has started to cloud your sleep or your mood for weeks, talking to a counsellor can give the transition somewhere to go.
